Computer simulation of the turnaround process to reduce delays
A simulation model for the turnaround process at KQ was developed, and implementing it showed the potential to reduce ground handling delays by 28%. This mathematical model uses historical operational data as input in order to derive an optimal schedule for ground operations during an aircraft’s turnaround phase. Creating and adopting turnaround schedules individually tailored to each aircraft type, parking bay, time of the day and passengers on board, allows the airline to optimally allocate its resources. Ultimately reducing delays and hence costs.
